Carers with kinship care placements under the management of ACT Together have access to a Carer Support Worker, which is different to the Case Manager.
Both the Case Manager and the Carer Support Worker are part of ACT Together, but they perform different roles. While the Case Manager focuses on what’s best for the child or children in care, the Carer Support Worker focuses on the well being of the carer and their family.
Kinship Carer Support Workers:
- provide a point of contact for carers to discuss their caring role, and general well-being
- communicate educational and training opportunities with carers
- host a monthly support Coffee Group for carers
- provide a regular newsletter to carers with pertinent information for carers in the ACT
- connect carers with appropriate information and services to assist in promoting good health and well-being for the carers
- attend meetings within ACT Together to support carers
- organise some social activities for carers and their families throughout the year, such as holiday events and a Christmas party
If you do not know who your Carer Support Worker is, ask your Case Manager to put them in touch with you.
